NewSouth Books Congratulates Publishers on the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards
NewSouth Books congratulates its publishers on their success in the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards. 'Dark Emu' (Magabala Books) was awarded Book of the Year, as well as joint winner of the Indigenous Writer’s Prize, 'brush' (Giramondo) was the winner of the Kenneth Slessor Prize for Poetry, 'The Bleeding Tree' (Currency Press) was the winner of the Nick Enright Prize for Playwriting and 'The Life of Houses' (Giramondo) was the winner of the People’s Choice Award. Further, a big congratulations to Dr Rosie Scott AM, editor of The Intervention (NewSouth, forthcoming) who received the Special Award.

NewSouth Books congratulates its publishers included in the 2016 Australian Book Industry Awards shortlist. The Art of Free Travel (NewSouth) is up for Small Publishers’ Adult Book of the Year, and Kookoo Kookaburra (Magabala Books) and Numerical Street (NewSouth) are in the running for Small Publishers’ Children’s Book of the Year.
Our warmest congratulations to Stuart Macintyre for winning the 2016 Ernest Scott Prize for his book Australia’s Boldest Experiment: War and Reconstruction in the 1940s. The Prize is awarded annually to a work of Australian or New Zealand history based on original research. Australia’s Boldest Experiment details Australia’s development from the midst of the Depression and WWI & II, into a prosperous, growing society by the 1950s. The judges described it as “masterful in coverage and assured in narrative”. NewSouth congratulates all the shortlisted authors.
